We are a friendly partnership of 7 doctors working from a large purpose built medical centre. We cover a practice population of over 12000 patients in Worsley and Swinton.

Three of the partners are female, two of whom work part time. The remaining partners are all full time. We have 5 practice nurses and 2 healthcare assistants currently in post. As well as providing management of both acute and chronic illhealth we offer travel advice and vaccinations, minor surgery, cryotherapy, joint injection, well baby checks and immunisation and family planning services including IUCD fittings. Our practice nurses also run dedicated chronic disease management clinics namely respiratory, diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease checks. This has helped us achieve high QOF scores.

We hold regular monthly clinical governance meetings and weekly business meetings. The registrars are expected to attend and participate in these meetings.

The practice has a long history of being involved in both nusing and medical education. Dr Marginson has been a trainer since 1986 and Dr Patel since 2002 thereby providing 2 registrar posts per year. Dr Marginson is the clinical governance lead for the practice and is also an appraiser for Salford PCT. Dr Patel advises the PCT on medical education matters and is on the LMC.

The practice takes medical students from Manchester University on a regular basis, and from August 2006 Dr McGuigan will be looking after our Foundation Year 2 doctors. Over the years the majority of our registrars have passed the MRCGP examination.

Both of our registrars and the Foundation Year 2 doctors have their own consulting rooms and will be offered a position to work in a supportive learning environment. Appropriate help will be given to enable our registrars to pass summative assessement / nMRCGP.
